Brussels sprouts are a versatile and nutritious vegetable that can be transformed with the right preparation.
Known for their rich, earthy flavor and crisp texture when roasted, they are a favorite among those looking to add a healthy, flavorful side to their meals.
Whether you enjoy them simply seasoned or dressed up with bold marinades, Brussels sprouts are a delicious addition to any table.
Ingredients
1 lb (450g) Brussels sprouts, halved or quartered
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic salt
Optional:
Red pepper flakes for extra heat
Parmesan cheese for garnish after roasting
Instructions
Prepare the Marinade:
In a gallon-sized zip-top bag, combine the juice of 1 lemon, 1 tablespoon olive oil, black pepper, paprika, and garlic salt.
Marinate the Brussels Sprouts:
Add the halved or quartered Brussels sprouts to the bag.
Seal the bag and toss until the Brussels sprouts are evenly coated.
Refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to develop.
Preheat the Oven:
When ready to roast, preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Roast the Brussels Sprouts:
Spread the marinated Brussels sprouts in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Roast for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy on the edges.
Serve:
Remove from the oven and serve immediately. Enjoy them as a delicious side dish or snack!
For the best results, choose fresh Brussels sprouts that are firm and bright green, as they’ll roast more evenly and retain a better texture.
To enhance the marinade, consider adding a splash of balsamic vinegar or a drizzle of honey for a hint of sweetness that balances the acidity of the lemon.
Make sure the Brussels sprouts are evenly coated and spread out in a single layer on the baking sheet to ensure they roast, not steam.
For extra crispiness, roast them on a parchment-lined baking sheet and flip them halfway through cooking.
Finally, garnish with freshly grated Parmesan, a sprinkle of red pepper flakes, or toasted nuts for added flavor and texture.
To store roasted Brussels sprouts, allow them to cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container.
They can be refrigerated for up to 3-4 days.
To reheat, spread them on a baking sheet and warm them in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes to restore their crispiness.
Alternatively, you can reheat them in an air fryer for a few minutes.
Avoid microwaving, as it can make them soggy.
If you have leftover marinated (but uncooked) Brussels sprouts, store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours before roasting.
