Lazy Day Ziti

This Lazy Day Ziti is a quick and easy take on the classic baked ziti, perfect for busy weeknights when you want comfort food without all the fuss. It’s hearty, cheesy, and incredibly satisfying with minimal effort!

Ingredients

12 ounces ziti or any short pasta (penne, rigatoni, or macaroni work too)

1 jar (24 oz) marinara or pasta sauce

1 cup ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper, to taste

1/2 pound ground beef, Italian sausage, or both (optional)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta:

Boil the pasta according to package instructions until just al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cook the Meat (Optional):

If using ground beef or sausage, cook it in a skillet over medium heat until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat and stir it into the marinara sauce.

Mix the Cheeses:

In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, 1/4 cup of Parmesan, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Assemble the Dish:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large baking dish (9×13 inches), spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom.

Layer half of the cooked pasta, followed by half of the cheese mixture, then half of the marinara sauce.

Repeat with the remaining pasta, cheese mixture, and sauce.

Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Bake:

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Serve:

Let the ziti rest for 5 minutes before serving. Pair it with garlic bread and a fresh salad for a complete meal.

Tips for Lazy Day Ziti:

Shortcuts: Use pre-cooked frozen meatballs or rotisserie chicken for added protein without extra work.

Make Ahead: Assemble the ziti, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Add 10 minutes to the bake time if baking from cold.

Freezer-Friendly: Prepare the dish and freeze before baking. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake as directed.
